Diary entry for early Nov 2009:

Finally made it to the Bondi end of Sculpture by the Sea and the sight of an artwork has me cocooned in a moment of reflection.  So far, a lot of the sculptures featured this year are too 'concept' orientated and a bit gimmicky.  Perhaps because the concept doesn't match the execution.

The workmanship on many pieces is almost deliberately sloppy in some places.  Or the "idea" too apparent.  B...

Diary entry for Thursday 22nd October 2009:

It is cool and overcast, so different from the 30' degree heat wave of yesterday.  Some may even label it gloomy but I don't. I like it.

There's a sense of mystery and magic in the air - a sense of wonder in the universe undulating in the earth around me.  The waves ripple with it, the air pulses with it, and the earth hums with it.  It is an indefinable stirring of energy but it is there.

is spring the silly season for poetry ?

Was revisiting one of my favourite childhood novels - Emily of New Moon by L.M.Montgomery [the author of the Anne of Green Gables series].  In this series - the teacher Mr Carpenter fumes to aspiring writer Emily Starr that "spring is responsible for more [literary] trash than in the known universe".

Certainly it seems that the writing fingers itch in spring - but is the output any good ?  Or are we simply deluded by the balmy weather that whatever we produce is a ...
